| Resumo | This paper presents a multitemporal analysis of the land cover and soil uses in city of Santarém, in Pará state (Brazil), which has the highest rates of deforestation in the nation. We emphasize that this area is part of the Brazilian Amazon biome, therefore needs a special attention due to a high biodiversity, which are not found in other locations worldwide. In the municipality of Santarém much of this economic activity is related to logging and agricultural production, supported by a large amount of wood industries and the expansion of cropland in the region, which results in further increasing the rate of deforestation. For analysis of changes, images from Landsat-5/TM satellite from 2005, 2007 and 2009, were used. To this, techniques of digital image processing were tested and applied supervised algorithms of automatic classification, such Parallelepiped, Mahalanobis Distance and Maximum Likelihood. After processing the images, results showed that Maximum Likelihood classification presented the most accurate and higher Kappa index, when tested in the 2009 image, which justifies their use in previous images. So, we can note dramatic changes in land cover and soil uses, like as the advance of the deforested areas, expansion of agricultural area, mainly for agriculture and capitalized areas of exposed soil, requiring constant attention to the preservation of native rainforest areas of this country. |
